Learning Objectives
The course pursues the following educational objectives:
- ability to acquire the 'sense' of the profession of social worker and of its position in the current welfare system
-understanding of the relevance of ethical and deontological issues in professional practices
- knowledge of the main reference models of the social service
- ability to understand the most important elements of the methodological question in the profession of social worker
- ability to recognize the complexity of a profession and the appropriate methodologies in the various fields
- development of a "complex thought” concerning the social phenomena which are the subject of social service activity, a basic requirement to take the professional perspective
- introduction to a methodological process characterized by the attention to the relational dimension, the assessment and intervention in a collaborative perspective, the reflectivity on professional action
- ability to analyze life histories in order to identify the processes of marginality, the resources and the experiences of coping stressfull events
- reflections on the theme of professional writing

The evolution and position of a profession through legislation
The meaning, the structure, the organization, the contents of the New Code and the connections with the work of the social worker.
Ethical dilemmas and deontology.
Theoretical models of social work
Methodology and methods in social work: the areas of intervention.
Focus on different methodological aspects of the profession: the social service work of the emergency urgency.
The help process: access to the social services and characteristics of the first interview.
The assessment (according to the model of reciprocity). The concepts of resource and resilience.
Social work and narrative approach. From oral communication to professional writing. The biogram tool for collecting and studying life stories.
