The course prepares to the study of labour and its main meanings in contemporary society, in a comparative perspective. Starting from classic theories, affords the themes of labour division and regulation: economic and social division of labour; labour market; industrial relations; labour policies. The direct study of recent researches foster the acquisition of methodological competencies for the study of labour.

Learning Objectives
KNOWLEDGE: The course offers a sociological analysis of labour's changes, forms of production and social exchange regulating labour, conditions and contents of working experience and its effect on individual indentity. Through an historical and comparative approach follows the transformation of industrial model since its origin, through the study of contemporary researches introduces an in-depht analysis and to the interpretation of actual environment and its perspectives.
COMPETENCIES: The course aims at developing competencies in the analysis of labour - society relationship, and especially the way in which characters of labour and labour market influence individuals as well as the society on the whole. These competencies are required in jobs related to the design, analysis and monitoring of labour policies; HRM; interests' representation; public or private services for demamd-supply intermediation in the labour market; research and teaching in the field.
ABILITIES TO BE ACQUIRED: Students learn to do scientific research in socio-labourist field; interpret and use researches and databases on labour, labour market, etc.; directly confront themselves with classical authors in the field and the contemporary scientific debate.
Prerequisites
Having done the exam in Sociology is strongly recommended
Teaching Methods
Lectures with active participation of students for 48 hours and seminars for at least 12 hours
Type of Assessment
Oral examination based on the texts indicated.
Students attending the course can present a paper on a subject defined with teachers instead of sustain the oral examination on the free choice text.
Course program
The FIRST module offer a general presentation of the Sociology of labour, its main theoretical and methodological approaches to the analysis of labour market and the relationship between labour and society. The theoretical-interpretative perspective is based on the major classical and recent contributions, at the national and international level, as well as on the comparative analysis at the European level.
The SECOND module provides the direct and in-depth study of the division of labour and its regulation. Students are required to participate actively, with oral presentations and discussions.
