Course Content
The first part puts centre stage what is a family in sociological terms as distinguished from common sense. The peculiarities of Italian families are explored, low female activity and low fertility, long cohabitation of young people in family of origin, lack of support policies, gift economy, relatives networks. In the second part Italian family is further compared with the rest of Europe as concerns divorce, single parent and blended families, adoptive and foster families, assisted procreation.
